Rest In Pony: Krode, False Sense, Lose Sight, and Terror @ The Golden Pony in Harrisonburg, VA

Last night (Monday, May 18th 2026), my friend and I were walking up the street from Jack Brown's after eating a couple burgers and having a few beers. Where we were headed is sure to go down in history as one of the most important shows to occur in Central Virginia in recent history. As you can tell from the title, this line-up was going to prove great from the start; but its historical for more than just that...this was the last hardcore show at The Golden Pony before they close their doors for good next month. Without a doubt, this was a show that me and all of my friends will be talking about for years. So, in case you missed it, here's a rundown from last night:
Krode
Krode got onto the stage like they knew the layout, probably because they do. Founded at the corner of the downstairs bar at The Golden Pony, they put on a show in exactly the way you'd expect. Kicking off the night, the entire basement was shaking with fast riffs, angry lyrics, and an attitude that made sure that if the Virginia ABC authorities were listening...well, they definitely heard all of our opinions of them. Krode gave us all something we could appreciate right away, even if they made a pointed effort to melt all of our faces off. I'm honestly still beating myself up for last night being the first time I had heard them, but I can say with full faith that this will not be the last time. These guys have the grit and determination to stand in any pile of ashes, plug in some amps, and get right to work laying down fast, ground-shaking music with a message to send. Closing out their set with the poignantly titled "Everything's Fucked", we were all reminded of exactly what we were losing last night. But what the scene may be losing in a venue, we refuse to give up in the crowd. I absolutely cannot wait to see these guys again, even if the next spot doesn't feel like home.
False Sense
False Sense was up next, and they made it clear that they were not present to cancel, they were present exclusively to kill. And that's exactly what they did. This West Virginia outfit laid down absolutely pure, angry, unadulterated hardcore in a way that I wasn't fully expecting. Obviously, I knew what I was there for, but I had no way to anticipate the perfectly placed samples right before the drops into the songs and didn't really know where to expect the sound to come from next. This is music that you can feel in your chest both physically and emotionally. Elements of beatdown mixed with that Appalachian anger that is unheard of anywhere else made for one of the most impactful performances I've ever seen. I heard it somewhere recently that you don't truly understand silence until you've been deep in Appalachia alone at night...False Sense clearly understands silence, and is providing jams that make you want to groove and knock someone next to you with your elbow at the same time just to break that silence. At the start of their set, they made it clear that they are not from here, but have felt at home every time they have come around. I surely hope that they keep coming to our neck of the woods just to feel at home. False Sense has a new EP coming out on May 30th with a release party at Harvest Tattoo Collective in Hagerstown, MD on the same night, with a single from that EP coming just a few days before the full drop - you should do everything in your power to be there, but if you can't I have the inside track for more upcoming False Sense shows at the bottom of the article alongside their socials!
Lose Sight
The dudes in Lose Sight made straight edge cooler than it has been in a long time last night, and the crowd wasn't just people there who came to see other bands on the bill. Lose Sight could look clearly in the crowd and know that close, personal friends were out there yelling back every word. It was a short, fast, punchy set much like most of their songs, and it makes you want them to stay on the stage. These guys absolutely have their art figured out, and they know it. I can feel it in my gut that this Richmond-based crew is gonna be one of the next big things out of the Central Virginia Underground. The only other thing I'll say is check out their album Richmond Straight Edge, and most of all Think For Yourself!
Terror
The headliner. The global sensation. 10 albums down, an untold amount to come. Seeing Terror has been on my list of absolute needs for a long time now, and I only had to drive an hour to do it. Its funny that when you need something the most, the universe makes sure you get every ounce of it. And to top it off, I got closer that I could have imagined. So close, Chris Linkovich (bassist) had turned his mic to me and a small group standing with one foot on a corner of the stage for us to belt out "Still Suffering", "One With The Underdogs", and "Keepers of the Faith". Everything I love about hardcore - the people, the basements, the stagedives, the taking an elbow to the eye while trying to snap the perfect picture - was right there in that moment. Right there on the stage, I got to bear witness to one of the cornerstones of hardcore. And they didn't tone it down because its smaller than a stadium, they didn't church anything up or make any long speeches...it was pure, it was a living piece of the underground, I would even go so far as to say that it felt local in a "everyone knows everyone" kind of way. That's what makes this scene so important. For anyone that has ever felt alone, beaten down, angry...for those who aren't sure if they're going to make rent this month, or don't know how to tell the people they love what's on their mind because the words just don't feel right enough. For any willing participant who needs an outlet and contributes in good faith, that is who hardcore is for. And that's exactly what Terror delivered. They've been staying true to that code since 2002, and we're all Still Suffering in a way that feels good to do together.
That's A Wrap: One Last Round at The Golden Pony
Without a doubt, I woke up this morning pleased with my survival, ecstatic about what I just witnessed, and a little bit sore from getting stomped. But with that comes an equal amount of heartache. This really was it for everyone's favorite basement venue, and the understanding of that is really starting to sink into my bones. There is a lotta love inside the walls of The Golden Pony in Harrisonburg, VA - it's a place where people make music, a livelihood, a name for something new that they're just starting, a home for people of all walks of life that come together with something in common. And it's an absolute tragedy that we have to say goodbye to The Golden Pony. I don't know what comes after, but I know where I was last night - and I can honestly say, I'm glad I wasn't anywhere else. This was a high note to go out for me personally, but you can still check out H-Burg's favorite venue for a little while longer and they will have their final shows on back-to-back nights, June 5th & 6th. Please go stop in, make some friends, and definitely sell out those last two shows.
